DAMN 13 Announce New Record Deal, Line Up Tour Dates With MOTÖRHEAD, C.O.C.

April 7, 2005

Toronto's DAMN 13, the brainchild of former MONSTER VOODOO MACHINE frontman Adam (Doom) Sewell, are set to kick off a slew of Canadian dates opening for MOTÖRHEAD and CORROSION OF CONFORMITY.

In celebration of their 30th anniversary, MOTÖRHEAD kicked off a full North American tour last month. The band personally invited DAMN 13 to join the Canadian tour, which starts April 14 in Vancouver, B.C. On the heels of this announcement, the band made public their recent signing with Canadian independent label Distort Entertainment (ALEXISONFIRE). DAMN 13's full-length debut, "Black Heart Northern Soul", is scheduled for commercial release on May 31 via Distort/Universal Music Canada.

"I'll be perfectly honest with you," says Sewell. "I can't think of a better label for us to work with at this time. Working with the awesome people at Distort Entertainment is like working with family. We're all working in the same underground music trenches night after night, so we might as well be working together. Besides, Greg (Below, label president) just bought a Harley, so he wanted a kick-ass album to ride to".

Since late 1998, DAMN 13's own unique brand of "riot rock" (a mix of punk rock, early '80s hardcore, and hard rock) has gained them opening slots for SLIPKNOT, FEAR FACTORY, AFI, GWAR, VISION OF DISORDER, and the BACKYARD BABIES, among others. Rising up from the ashes of Toronto's MONSTER VOODOO MACHINE, DAMN 13 features Sewell alongside guitarists Mike (13) Charette (IGNORANCE NEVER SETTLES) and Justin McWilliams, drummer Dan Cornelius, and bassist Dave Smedley.

Says Sewell of the band's message: "I don't care about the sex, drugs and rock n' roll battlecry. That's not the mission we're on. The spirit of this band has more in common with socio-political punk rock and the blues. Timeless music that speaks to a lifetime of living. With our amps on 11, we just happen to speak the gospel a bit louder than other rock bands."
