DAVE BROCKIE EXPERIENCE, CANNABIS CORPSE To Perform At CORY SMOOT Memorial Concert

November 22, 2011

MENSREA, CANNABIS CORPSE and DAVE BROCKIE EXPERIENCE are among the artists who will perform at the upcoming Cory Smoot memorial concert, set to take place on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at The Canal Club in Richmond, Virginia.

GWAR guitarist Cory Smoot, a.k.a. Flattus Maximus, was found dead as the the band was about to enter Canada on November 3. He was 34 years old.

Smoot joined GWAR in 2002 and first appeared on the band's 2004 album "War Party". He was the fifth guitarist to play the character of Flattus Maximus, known by his red face, white dreadlocks, dinosaur-head shoulder pads and reptile feet.

Born August 25, 1977, Smoot previously played in metal bands MISGUIDED and LOCUS FACTOR and continued to play with MENSREA, in addition to establishing his own solo project, THE CORY SMOOT EXPERIMENT.

Eve Alleyne, who grew up with Cory in Richmond and is co-organizing the memorial event, tells BLABBERMOUTH.NET, "[Smoot's] wife and I are very close and are working together to make this event happen. She wants Cory to remembered not only as a member of GWAR but an amazing, multi-talented person. This event is to recolonize him for him solo work, too.

"Before Cory's tragic death, his solo record had just been pressed and ready for distribution. This show is to honor the legacy and memory of a great man and all he did to inspire fellow musicians and fans all over the world. All of the bands represented were all friends of Cory's and would like to pay homage by bringing together as much of the local music scene as we can muster."
