In related news, Mustaine recently spoke to Guitar One magazine for their November 2003 "Metal" issue. With regards to his upcoming solo debut, Dave said, "There are certain things, musically, in my soul, that know when it's time to come out. And if I try to coax it out at the wrong time, you'll know it just ain't right. I don't know what the new stuff will sound like, but I can tell you that what I'm working on right now is exciting for me."
Mustaine also talked about the condition called radial neuropathy, a nerve disorder of the arm that stopped Dave's musical career dead in its tracks in early 2002. So bleak was his future that in March of last year, Mustaine officially disbanded MEGADETH. "I was pretty crippled — I couldn't even hold a coffee cup with my left hand," he recalled.
But the time off has provided the guitarist with a fresh new outlook on life. "The whole [healing] process was well worth it," he said. "I've completely reevaluated my whole life — everything from my spiritual process to eating and sleeping to the way I address my peers. It's been a serious delousing of my entire life, as if somebody had set off a flea bomb inside my brain." With intense physical therapy and the same determination the guitarist has always applied to his music, Mustaine has overcome his disability, and reports that his hand is now "better than it was before the injury."
