DEADSY Drummer On Scoring 'The Good Night' Film: 'I Have Never Worked Harder In My Whole Life'

September 26, 2007

Drummer Alec Pure of the Los Angeles-based art-industrial-rock band DEADSY has issued the following update:

"Over the course of the last year I have been composing the score to a film called 'The Good Night'. It has completely consumed me. I have never worked harder or poured more of myself into something in my whole life. I used to think sitting behind a snare and a bass drum would be the frame through which I would view the world for the rest of my life, but after the last DEADSY record my best friend since kindergarten, Jake Paltrow, the writer and the director of the film came to me and asked if I would compose the score. I always knew it was something we would do together, but when the call came I couldn't believe it and I knew I had to harness everything I had learned as a musician and put it to use to write an amazing score.

The movie had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this year and sold to Sony Pictures and The Yari Film Group ('The Illusionist'). We got great reviews with tons of mentions for the music! It was such a huge deal. All our hard work paid off and for a brief moment we could sit back and enjoy ourselves and reflect on the crazy long journey and the sick amounts of hard work. Which isn't over yet and this is where i need you!!!!

"The movie comes out in New York on October 5th at the Angelika Film Center in Soho (the best arthouse theater in the world) and the Lincoln Plaza Theaters on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Every one of you in the New York area has to go see this movie on the opening weekend! Tell all of your friends and family to go! EVERYONE! For independent movies like this word of mouth is everything. You gotta get out there like it's life or fucking death. Because it is! The future of this movie lies in the hands of the audience. If you want to see this movie in your town, call your local theater, tell them you want to see it!

"With the release of the film on October 5th the soundtrack will also be available on iTunes and Amazon.com that day with an official street date release sometime in November.

"Go to our website, TheGoodNightFilm.com — tell your friends to go to it. Our trailer is premiering on The New York Times website NYtimes.com on Wednesday. Go to IMDB.com and vote '10' for our movie so people know how great and worthy it is.

"This movie is so special. Please go to our website and read all about it. It's too complicated and beautiful for me to try and explain it here — but it deals with dreams, self-perceived failure, the pursuit of perfection, music, depression... It stars Martin Freeman (BBC's 'The Office' and 'Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy'),Penelope Cruz, Gwyneth Paltrow, Simon Pegg ('Shawn of the Dead' and 'Hot Fuzz', literally the best comedian in the world) and the great Danny DeVito as the most broken, funny, sad, fucked up dude of all time.

"I love you all! Help us make it happen!"

DEADSY's second album, "Phantasmagore", came out in August 2006 on Elementree/Immortal. The band took part in last year's The Family Values Tour, along with an appearance at that summer's Lollapalooza.
