DEFTONES Guitarist Gives Up Online Golfing

December 13, 2006

Launch Radio Networks reports: DEFTONES guitarist Stephen Carpenter was ranked as the Number One online golfer on PlayStation in 2005, but surprisingly he's not looking for a PlayStation 3 under the Christmas tree this year. That's because Carpenter told Launch he gave up online golf for good once he switched to playing the game for real. "I don't rank anywhere on PlayStation anymore," he said. "I don't play the game at all. I did actually just buy a new Xbox 360 and the new Tiger Woods (game). I will play it once in a while just for the fun, you know, but no, I have no desire to dedicate myself to that gaming world like I did that time. I definitely wasted about 500 days straight on it."

Carpenter said he played golf online for nearly six months straight in 2005. DEFTONES drummer Abe Cunningham told AOL Music that "it got so bad that we weren't going to be able to go on tour if he wasn't going to be able to get his...good Internet signal each day."

The guitarist says his real-life golf game is "consistently getting better" and that he'd like to turn pro one day.

The DEFTONES are currently touring North America in support of their fifth album, "Saturday Night Wrist". The Sacramento-based act plays tonight (Wednesday, December 13) in Louisville, Kentucky.

The group will head to Europe, South America and the Far East in early 2007 before coming back to North America in the spring.

The DEFTONES will also be featured on the "Family Values Tour 2006" CD and DVD, which are both due out on December 26.
