DEICIDE's GLEN BENTON: 'I Treat This Band Like I Would My Family'

May 6, 2015

Bassist/vocalist Glen Benton of Florida death metal veterans DEICIDE was interviewed on a recent episode of "Radioactive Metal". You can now listen to the chat using the Spreaker widget below.

Asked what former CANNIBAL CORPSE guitarist Jack Owen brought to DEICIDE since Jack joined the band in 2005, Benton said: "When those two morons left [referring to guitarists Eric Hoffman and Brian Hoffman], Jack brought stability, a calm, a stress-free environment for me. 'Cause I was ready to quit the band; I was done. I had enough of them two morons; I was done. That's why I started doing VITAL REMAINS. I was at that point. I had enough. And Ralph [Santolla] being in the band, that was just… I knew when we brought Ralph in he was never gonna be permanent, because he's just a fucking mess of a human being… Jack, though… We're like family. The band is a family. I treat this band like I would my family. I don't pay myself more than anybody; we split everything equally, four ways."

He continued: "Once Kevin [Quirion, guitar] made the record with us, [we told him], 'You're an even partner.' You know what I mean?! 'Cause I like to sleep at night. I couldn't treat people like a hired gun and shit. You know what I mean?! To me, that's just… When bands do that, it's, like, 'Who are you as far as…? On a human level, how are you better than anybody else? Why should you be paid more?' And people can respect me for that, or they can hate me for it. I run it like a business, you know what I mean?! And everybody's happy. This lineup is not gonna go away."

DEICIDE will headline the fifth installment of the annual Metal Alliance tour. Support on the trek will come from ENTOMBED A.D., HATE ETERNAL, BLACK CROWN INITIATE, LORNA SHORE and SVART CROWN. The tour will make the trek across United States and Canada, starting in Montreal on May 26 and ending on June 22 in Tampa.

DEICIDE's latest album, "In The Minds Of Evil", sold 2,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release. Issued on November 25, 2013 via Century Media Records, the follow-up to 2011's "To Hell With God" was recorded at AudioHammer Studios in Sanford, Florida with producer Jason Suecof (TRIVIUM, AUGUST BURNS RED, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, ALL THAT REMAINS, WHITECHAPEL, DEVILDRIVER).
