DESTRUCTOR Announces Bass Player Contest Winner

April 25, 2011

Cleveland, Ohio thrash metal veterans DESTRUCTOR have selected Wayne Richards from Parma, Ohio as the winner of their bass player contest. Richards currently plays in the bands SOULLESS and METAL PUNISHMENT.

Richards will have the opportunity to play bass live on stage with DESTRUCTOR for the band's entire set May 6 set at Peabody's Concert Club in Cleveland, Ohio supporting Germany's thrash metal legends DESTRUCTION. HEATHEN and WARBEAST are also on the bill. The performance will be filmed and recorded.

DESTRUCTOR bass player Jamie Boulder has a previous out-of-town commitment with his band MIDNIGHT on the same night and will not be able to perform.

"Throughout my years in metal, I've had the good fortune to have played with many excellent musicians and have had the opportunity to meet some of the greatest humans I've ever known," says Richards. "Among them and certainly near the top of the list are Dave Overkill, Pat Rabid, Matt Flammable and Jamie Boulder.

"When Dave contacted me to let me know I was selected to fill-in for Jamie to play bass at the upcoming DESTRUCTOR gig, I was quite excited and aroused in the manly region. DESTRUCTOR's great history of thrash dominance is legendary, and to be a very small part of that history is an overwhelming privilege for me. From their thrash classic 'Maximum Destruction' to the more recent 'Sonic Bullet' and 'Forever In Leather', DESTRUCTOR has been a longtime favorite of mine and Cleveland's definitive metal spirit.

"I've played quite a few gigs alongside DESTRUCTOR from my years in SOULLESS and we've shared a helluva lot of beers, laughs and a good deal of metal foolishness that has allowed me to get to know the boys a bit.

"Our first rehearsal earlier this week went extremely well and we will bring down the fucking hammers on May 6th! So this is a one-time deal; a mini-thrash metal fantasy camp for me, and I intend to make the most of it.

"Incidentally, Jamie has assured me that I have the figure to squeeze into his assless leather chaps for the gig. So look out!"

The runner-up winner was Bob Delchin from Wickliffe, Ohio. Delchin plays with the band ALTERNATE REALITY and hosts a heavy metal radio show on WCSB 89.3 FM in Cleveland.

"Thanks to everyone who entered this contest", says DESTRUCTOR vocalist/guitarist Dave Overkill. "We had a lot of great entries and it was difficult to pick just one person but we have made a choice. The interest was overwhelming."
