DEVILDRIVER Bassist Explains Early Departure From European Tour

July 22, 2010

Bassist Jon Miller of Santa Barbara, California metallers DEVILDRIVER was forced to miss the last week's worth of dates on the band's just-completed European tour because he had a "pressing medical issue that needed immediate attention." He was temporarily replaced for the shows in question by DEVILDRIVER's guitar tech, Dave Burke, and tour manager, Aaron "Bubble" Patrick (ex-BURY YOUR DEAD). Miller writes in an online posting, "I am feeling much better now and am beyond stoked to be a part of this year's Ozzfest [which kicks off on August 14 in Devore, California]."

DEVILDRIVER recently finished recording its fifth album at Sonic Ranch studios in Tornillo, Texas with producer Mark Lewis (TRIVIUM, CHIMAIRA, ALL THAT REMAINS) for a tentative early 2011 release through Roadrunner Records. Acclaimed British producer Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, EXODUS, MACHINE HEAD, NEVERMORE, ARCH ENEMY) is currently mixing the effort at his Backstage studio in Derbyshire, England.

Regarding the new CD's musical direction, Miller said, "This is the album that I have been waiting to show DEVILDRIVER fans what we do best. It is not a nice-sounding record. It is not happy or friendly. It's dark. It's wicked. It's pissed. It's also getting mixed right now and hopefully DEVILDRIVER fans will get to hear a new track by the early fall."

Fan-filmed video footage of the Jon Miller-less version of DEVILDRIVER performing at this year's Zwarte Cross (Black Cross) festival on July 17, 2010 in Lichtenvoorde, Holland can be viewed below.
