DEVIN TOWNSEND BAND Drummer Laying Down Tracks For Ex-ANNIHILATOR Bassist's Solo EP

July 19, 2005

DEVIN TOWNSEND BAND drummer Ryan Van Poederooyen is currently laying down tracks for former ANNIHILATOR bassist Russell Bergquist's solo EP at Greenhouse Studios in Vancouver. "Russ and I have been jamming his songs consistently over the last few weeks and it's sounding really tight and good to go," Ryan writes on his web site.

As previously reported, Van Poederooyen and Bergquist are both scheduled to appear on the upcoming album from LALU, the new heavy/progressive project led by French composer Vivien Lalu. The album, entitled "Temporal", is scheduled for release in early 2006 through the Finnish label Lion Music. Two tracks on the CD will feature Virgil Donati (PLANET X, SOUL SIRKUS) on drums and Gary Wehrkamp (SHADOW GALLERY) as a guest guitar soloist. Those two songs, initially planned for the SHADRANE project (which has been in the works for three years now),were included on "Temporal" instead, for stylistic reasons. Martin LeMar (vocals; TOMORROW'S EVE) and Joop Wolters (guitar),who previously appeared on LALU's "Oniric Metal" CD, also contribute to the new CD.

Commented Van Poederooyen: "Virgil is one of the top session drummers out there today and he's a huge inspiration for myself and many drummers worldwide. Virgil's known for his work in PLANET X, SOUL SIRKUS and countless sessions. Virgil had already recorded some songs for Vivien a while ago and those songs will appear on Lalu's second album, which he has titled 'Temporal'. It will be an honour for me to play on another Lalu album and to share drumming duties with such an amazing drummer like Virgil Donati!"
