DEVIN TOWNSEND: I Really Want To Produce BURTON C. BELL's Solo Album

August 8, 2002

Multi-talented Canadian musician Devin Townsend (i.e. STRAPPING YOUNG LAD) has expressed interest in producing the forthcoming solo CD from ex-FEAR FACTORY frontman Burton C. Bell.

"I would really like to produce Burton's new record," Townsend stated in an recent online newsletter. "I bet you it's going to be cool. Would I play on it? Maybe."

With regards to FEAR FACTORY's recent break-up, Devin — who openly admits to having been heavily influenced by FF during SYL's formative years — stated: "I think it was about time that they ended it. Regardless of what anybody says, I was always a fan and they influenced me a whole lot. Through them I found really heavy bands, not just the METALLICAs and MEGADETHs."

Devin also rejected the rumors of a possible union with the new group led by former MEGADETH members Dave Ellefson (bass),Marty Friedman (guitar),Al Pitrelli (guitar),and Jimmy DeGrasso (drums). "Why would [I] want to join MEGADETH?," Townsend asked. "Join the DAVE MUSTAINE BAND without Dave Mustaine? Please don't hold auditions for the DEVIN TOWNSEND BAND if anything should happen to me."
