DEVOURMENT To Record 'Butcher The Weak' In August
July 22, 2005Bassist Mike Majewski of the reformed Texas-based underground death metallers DEVOURMENT has posted the following message on the group's official message board:
"We've been keeping quiet lately about the goings on in the DEVO camp so I figured I'd give ya a lil update. Of course, nothing is 100 percent set in stone, but this is the game plan! 'Butcher the Weak' is going to have eight songs — six that no one has ever heard, 'Autoerotic Asphyxiation' and a revamped version of 'Babykiller'. We decided to go with eight instead of nine strictly for time restraints. We want to tighten the songs we have rather than rush the last few and sacrifice quality to get an extra song on, ya know. Of course this may change if time allows, but the plan is eight right now.
"As far as a bass player, we recently tried out someone that didn't work out, strictly because of conflict of styles, so the plan, as of now, is that Mr. Rosas will lay down the bass tracks on the record. Reason he's doing it and not me is because he knows all the songs and it's easier to do it that way, rather than me learn them, which goes back to time restraints.
"Instead of re-recording 'Autoerotic' with my vocals, we are just gonna say fuck that and go right to recording the whole album, we are just about ready and we don't wanna waste any more time, you fuckers have waited long enough. We ARE scheduled to enter the studio in August so a summertime release is still going to happen as we all hoped. We decided not to go with any labels as we don't want to have any limitations that a label may impose, such as touring, merch, whatever. We are also already planning some shows, which I will wait to announce until they are confirmed."
DEVOURMENT recently announced that Majewski will be taking over the vocal duties in the group after the departure of original frontman Wayne Knupp. Ruben Rosas, who had initially taken Knupp's place on the band's 1999 full-length release "Molesting the Decapitated" (United Guttural),has moved from vocals to full-time guitar duties, replacing original guitarist Brian "Brain" Wynn. In addition, former SUTURE and current SCARLINE/RHOME drummer Erik Park has replaced longtime DEVOURMENT skinsman Brad Fincher.
