DIMEBAG Tribute Painting Being Auctioned Via eBay

December 11, 2007

Southlake, Texas artist Lamberto Alvarez is selling his "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott tribute painting "Dimebag's Raging Heart" via eBay. The auction ends on December 15.

In a posting on his LambertoArtGallery.com web site, Alvarez had the following to say about the painting:

"There has been very few people that I've painted in my career just out of pure inspiration, and for the sheer pleasure of doing so. But the loss of Dimebag in December [2004] had such an incredible impact on me personally that I felt compelled to try and capture him in canvas as I remembered him. When Dime played, you really felt as if his heart was on fire! I mean, the passion behind this man's fingers was just incredible!

"I had the honor of opening up for PANTERA several times with my old buddies from BLACKOUT during the middle and late Eighties, so I personally got a glimpse of this extraordinary man up close, at the fringe of them making it big time. You could not help but know deep inside that Dime was destined to be a mega star. PANTERA raised the measuring stick way up high. And metal and everything that followed after them was never the same. Metal was given a new life. And Dime was hugely responsible for that. And everything that is said about Darrell is very true. He had an incredible heart, and he always made you feel like you were a bud, even if you were just a musician opening up for him. A true gentleman. in all sense of the word. Yes, the world lost one of its brightest musical stars, but sadder than that, the world lost a great, kind human being.

"We miss you Dime, but your heart will forever rage in your music."

"Dimebag" Darrell Abbott was shot to death along with three others during a DAMAGEPLAN performance at the Alrosa Villa nightclub in Columbus, Ohio.

Dimebag was posthumously inducted into the Hollywood RockWalk last May, in a ceremony attended by Vinnie Paul, their father Jerry Abbott and Dimebag's longtime girlfriend, Rita Haney, along with members of ALICE IN CHAINS, ANTHRAX, KISS, SLAYER and Ozzy Osbourne's band.

A bronze bust of Dimebag was unveiled during the ceremony and later installed on the RockWalk's posthumous inductee wall, alongside luminaries such as Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix and Robert Johnson.
