DROID Frontman On Working With KORN Guitarist, DEFTONES Singer
February 8, 2008Nancy Adamson of the Midland Reporter-Telegram recently conducted an interview with DROID lead singer James "Buddy" Eason.
On playing the SoCal music scene for several years, evolving their sound before catching their big break:
"I grew up in a town called Winter Haven, Florida. I moved to Los Angeles to pursue music about 11 or 12 years ago and about 8 years ago I hooked up with DROID and we've been playing ever since. We went through some rhythm section changes throughout the years and now we're where we need to be to get a record deal."
On being the first act signed to Emotional Syphon Recordings, the label founded by KORN guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer:
"The great thing about being with that label is (Shaffer) let us make the record we wanted to make. He wants to let the artists have a say-so about what they do. We made a DROID record the way DROID wants to hear it. The way DROID wants to play."
On one of the album's tracks, "Vengeance Is Mine", which features additional vocals by DEFTONES frontman Chino Moreno:
"It's a collaboration between our band and him and me on vocals. It came out really good."
On his favorite song to perform, "Resurrection":
"It's got a lot of different elements. It's really intense, it's got a good breakdown, it's got a melodic hook in the middle. Not so melodic that it's like a pop single, but it's melodic for us. I love that song."
