Drummer MIKE HISSAM Quits AXEMASTER

March 18, 2006

Drummer Mike Hissam, who has most recently played with the power/thrash metal band AXEMASTER, has sent the following message to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:

"My name was mentioned in a feature that I had just seen a little awhile ago about the band AXEMASTER and there needs to be a few corrections made to it.

"I had absolutely NO IDEA that anything I mentioned about whom I had met in the past or jammed with was being used as a 'marketing venture' at the expense of these people out there.

"I don't believe in publicly (or using) which bands you had been with/jammed with in order to gain attention for yourselves. My God, let your talents or music speak for itself without having to say 'formerly of this' or 'formerly of that.'

"The 'founder' of AXEMASTER [guitarist Joe Sims] had been, I guess, 'spreading' the word publicly to every 'zine out there about half of bands that I had either been with or even just jammed with. This is not only unfair and untrue yet also marks my public announcement of leaving this band (AXEMASTER) entirely. I dont have time for this and do not even care to 'hit the bigtime,' etc. This is the reason why I left the music scene in the first place some years back. Furthermore, I have no idea why my name is being assocated with BELLADONNA when all I had done was meet the guy (who was very kind and went above and beyond the call of duty to help out) and then when I wasn't able to fulfill the tour demands and deadline for learning the material, I just simply went home out of respect."

AXEMASTER, who found success in the '80s and '90s with two albums released by Azra International and two CDs issued via Unisound Records, recently announced plans to reform with a lineup featuring Sims, Hissam, and original vocalist/bassist Christopher Michael. A new CD was said to be planned that will include some new songs as well as new recordings of some of the band's past material (including the signature tunes "Death Before Dishonor" and "Crusades").
