Drummer SIMON WRIGHT Talks RONNIE JAMES DIO, QUEENSRŸCHE In New Audio Interview
May 15, 2013Metal Shock Finland's Blackdiamond recently conducted an interview with Simon Wright, former drummer of AC/DC, DIO, RHINO BUCKET and UFO, and current drummer for DIO DISCIPLES and the Geoff Tate-fronted version of QUEENSRŸCHE. You can now listen to the chat using the audio player below.
When asked by BlastzoneOnline.tk in an August 2011 interview why he left AC/DC, Wright said, "Well, I had been in the band for about eight years and I began to get complacent about things. Don't get me wrong — they are an incredible band, as we know, but I needed to expand on my drumming more. Branch out a bit. I think they noticed this in me — I guess it happens — so it was time to move on. I will never have enough thanks for the amazing journey they took me on. They are great people and a killer band."
DIO DISCIPLES, the group which pays tribute to legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW, DIO, HEAVEN & HELL) and is fully supported by Dio's widow/manager, Wendy Dio, will embark on a South American tour in June. In addition to Wright, DIO DISCIPLES' current lineup includes Tim "Ripper" Owens (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH) on vocals, Oni Logan (LYNCH MOB) on vocals, Craig Goldy (DIO) on guitar, Bjorn Englen (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) on bass and Scott Warren (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL) on keyboards.
