EDGUY Cancel METAL MELTDOWN IV Appearance!

March 23, 2002

German melodic metallers EDGUY have cancelled their appearance at the Metal Meltdown IV festival, which is scheduled to take place on April 5th and 6th at the Convention Hall in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Here is an official statement on the matter by EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet:

“Hey friends in the US,

“I am really pissed about having to tell you that we can no longer be on the billing for the New Jersey Metalfest. We are very sad and upset about the situation, but the whole story goes like this: Everything was confirmed, advertised by the promoter and we were ready to rock the US and really looking forward to it. But the closer the day of the show was coming during the last weeks, the more we got afraid of not getting the working visas on time since slowly but surely time was starting to run out. All we were quite sure about was that we would never go without visas, because then you take the risk of getting thrown out and getting refused any access to the US for a couple of years, which would mean there'd be no more EDGUY concerts [in the US] for years. Well, we told our booking management to find out what the situation was looking like, since some insiders kept asking about our visa thing and we ourselves wanted to have clearance as well. So, we told our booking management to get in touch with the promoters and get a final statement. Still we were sure to make it over like at any point because the show was officially confirmed via deal, but we wanted the f.cking confirmation for having the visas at a 120% black on white, since we don't want our fans to buy tickets for a festival where just our name and not the band itself appears. And now I got a phone call TWO F.CKING WEEKS BEFORE THE SHOW, that there'll be no visas on time. A BIG F.CK IT! We are sorry, big time, if you have got a ticket already, but be sure that this was the last thing we intended to do. We all have been looking forward to play the States for the first time and we had already planned to extend the trip with a couple of days of vacation in NYC. SH.T! Be sure: For Atlanta we will have visas as much as our friends of GAMMA RAY and [BLIND] GUARDIAN and we will f.cking play there. I am really sorry about it! And it really pisses me off big time!”
