EUROPE's Long-Awaited Documentary Will Finally Arrive In Early 2027, Says JOEY TEMPEST

During an appearance on the September 24 episode of SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk", EUROPE singer Joey Tempest offered an update on the band's documentary which the long-running Swedish hard rockers have been busy filming with producer/director Craig Hooper (DEEP PURPLE, SAXON) for Coolhead Productions. The film promises to tell the story of EUROPE, from formation until present day, telling of their rise to success in the mid-1980s, through hard times and heartache, to coming back in the millennium, and the current successes the band has achieved. Joey said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET):  "It's actually narrated, edited. It's done. We're looking for a platform to get it out, and we have just now started having some meetings. It's done. It's so emotional. It's the whole journey. It's the '80s. It's the '90s when a few of the guys didn't do really well, and it was fighting our way back. And it's a really good journey, and a time document, obviously, of that time as well. Yeah, we'll see it beginning of next year. That's my guess, and I hope this time it sticks."

Regarding what will be included in the documentary, Tempest said: "We're actually editing some bits now, because it takes time to finish it, so now we wanna bring it up to today. So hopefully we can start with something really fresh, and then we dive back to very beginning. And we got some great footage. Our first manager, Thomas Erdtman — you may have met him way back. He was in New York with me when we were younger. He walked around in the '80s with this big movie, film camera. I don't know how big they were, but they were huge. And we were, like, 'What are you doing? Why are you filming that? Why are you filming us when we're partying in hotel rooms? Why are you filming us when we're here?' But he was, like, 'Oh, it's good to have.' 'All right, whatever.' So we have a box of [videos of us] partying in hotel rooms in, in Japan, San Francisco as well, Tokyo and San Francisco, and it's all in the documentary, very early days. So that makes it more interesting, gives it more depth, those early, early films."

Back in April 2025, Tempest told Brazilian music journalist Igor Miranda about how the idea for the band's documentary came about: "We've had this team with us for four or five years traveling with us to document the newEUROPE. But during COVID, we'd started thinking, 'Hang on a second. Maybe it's time to do the documentary.' People have asked us to do this many years now. But we decided, 'Okay, let's do it.' And then we found a box with old VHS tapes. Our first manager, he walked around with this huge VHS camera when we were just kids. We were still teenagers, and we were wondering, 'What are you doing with that thing? Stop filming,' kind of thing. But he kept filming, and there's [footage] from hotel rooms, there's [footage] from backstage from the middle of '80s and up to '92. And there's stuff from all over the world. And there's stuff that has never [been] seen before, and it was exciting for us as well. So, basically, it's new footage from the band today touring, and there's old VHS footage that has never been seen, and the whole story of us coming from the suburbs of Stockholm, going out in the world and then, in the early '90s, grunge hitting the scene, and it's a bit of a dip and then it's us building everything up again to where we are today. So it's quite a good story as well. And the director's done a great job. So we can't wait. It's gonna be exciting to put this out."

Three years ago, Tempest told "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk" that EUROPE's upcoming film would include interviews with "people from GHOST", as well as "Benny Andersson from ABBA." He added: "We're just honored that people wanted to take part in this documentary."

EUROPE's new studio album, "Come This Madness", was released today (Friday, September 25) via Silver Lining Music. The LP was recorded at RMV Studio, the Stockholm-based recording facility founded by Benny Andersson and Ludvig Andersson. The album features special guest appearances from Tobias Forge (GHOST) and Mikael Åkerfeldt (OPETH) and was produced by acclaimed producer Tom Dalgety (GHOST, RAMMSTEIN, PIXIES, THE CULT, OPETH),who became a true creative force throughout the process, deeply embedded in the band's writing and recording, shaping the album's sound from the ground up. To bring the project to its final stage and complete their vision, the band turned to one of rock's most respected recording legends Mike Fraser (AC/DC, VAN HALEN, METALLICA, THE CULT, LOVERBOY) to mix the record.

EUROPE will embark on an extensive run of live dates, including a major tour to celebrate the 40th anniversary of "The Final Countdown". Kicking off in Glasgow on September 30, "The Final Countdown 40th Anniversary Tour" promises to unite the legacy that defined them with the renewed energy, driving them forward today.

In September 2023, EUROPE released a standalone new song titled "Hold Your Head Up". The track, which was described by the band as "a punchy uptempo rocker with reminiscent elements of early EUROPE," was recorded in August 2023 at Atlantis Studios in Stockholm with producer Klas Åhlund (GHOST, ROBYN) and was mixed by Stefan Glaumann (RAMMSTEIN, DEF LEPPARD),who also mixed EUROPE's "Secret Society" album.
