Ex-NIGHTWISH Singer Demoing Material For New Solo Album

May 23, 2007

Former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen's web site has been updated with the following message:

"We are nearly at the end of the month and Tarja already made demos for most of the songs of [the upcoming solo album] 'My Winter Storm'. The process took place in a recording studio in Argentina. Also in Buenos Aires, you can see Tarja starting a very different process… composing a song for her album. Tarja likes to refer to the song as 'Oasis'. A beautiful piano piece that found more inspiration few days later back in Finland. Tarja's next step will be to visit a new recording studio in Ibiza from where we'll post more news about the album, as the definitive recordings are about to start very soon. We are also preparing a blog that you will be able to access through a link in this web page. In the blog, Tarja, the producers and musicians will be telling you more details about the songs. You will be able to watch images and listen to some audio as well, so check www.tarjaturunen.com for more info in the following days."

NIGHTWISH's final recording with Turunen, the "End of an Era" live DVD and CD, entered the German chart at a No. 3 and was certified gold in Finland the day after its release.

"End of an Era" contains recordings/footage of NIGHTWISH's final concert with Turunen, which took place on October 21, 2005 at the Hartwall arena in Helsinki, Finland. In addition to the live footage, the DVD includes a slideshow of pictures from the Hartwall show and a 55-minute documentary, "A Day Before Tomorrow", featuring behind-the-scenes footage of the band in the 15 days prior to the Hartwall show.

NIGHTWISH fired Turunen via an "open letter," which was given to the singer immediately following the Helsinki show. The group has since found a replacement vocalist and is currently working on the follow-up to 2004's "Once", tentatively due in September.
