EXODUS Vocalist Issues European Tour Recap
September 6, 2008Vocalist Rob Dukes of the veteran San Francisco Bay Area metallers EXODUS has issued the following update:
"It was a great [European] tour — fucking great are the correct words.
"3 INCHES OF BLOOD are awesome; great band, good guys and fun as hell to tour with on the same bus.
"The shows were great, even the club shows, which in Europe this time of year can be weird because everyone is at the festivals or on vacation.
"I had a great time swimming in four different bodies of water.
"Spain is cool as fuck. I think I'm going there with the wife for a vacation.
"The festivals were insane — great fans, great bands to watch.
"We all got to stand on the side of the stage for UFO; it was fucking killer. I met Uli Jon Roth... Awesome. Saw a bunch of guys we have toured with — Peter from HYPOCRISY, THE HAUNTED, Barker, Micheal Amott came to some shows. We played with CARCASS, and the ARCH ENEMY guys came out and drank with us and we all had a blast.
"Most fucked moment of the tour is... OK, this needs a little explaining... When on tour, you have to recycle clothes or you either run out or buy new ones... There are no laundromats in Europe that easily available... so we have a thing called gig clothes or the rock suit, which is something you have two sets of... so as you're letting one dry, you wear the other. It's the clothes you wear on stage every night. I personally have three of the same thing, because when I come off stage I look like I jumped in a pool... So 30 shows = a lot of socks... So I wear the same pair of socks for four to five shows... I wear them onstage, then I let them dry and do this for a few shows (let me remind you they are only worn onstage). They usually smell after two shows, but fuck it, I'm on tour... The last show of this tour I decided to get rid of my rock suit instead of putting wet clothes back in my suitcase to fly home. I threw them into the crowd, including my sneakers, which had seen better days. So I throw my shoes into the crowd, they fight over them like a drumstick and I take my socks off and throw them under the drum riser and sing two more songs barefoot, Rollins style... At the end of the show, we are shaking hands and saying our thanks to the fans in the front row, and this dude starts pointing at my socks, and I said, 'You really want my dirty socks?' and the dude said yes... I kicked it over to him and he put it in his mouth and shook it like a dog... I almost threw up... Our fans are nuts... That's all I have to say about that...
"Great tour. Thank you all who came to the shows... See you next time."
EXODUS recently completed work on a re-recording of their classic 1985 debut album, "Bonded by Blood". Produced by guitarist Gary Holt, the new CD — entitled "Let There Be Blood" — was recorded at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, California; JKZ Production Studio in San Rafael, California; with vocal tracks recorded at J. Rod Production Studios in New City, New York. Andy Sneap mixed the CD at his Backstage studio in Derbyshire, England. An October 28, 2008 release through Zaentz Records is expected.
