Fans Of THE RED SHORE Mourn As Smash Kills Lead Singer
December 19, 2007Brendan Roberts and Karen Collier of the Herald Sun report: Tributes have flowed for two members of a Geelong, Victoria, Australia-based metal band killed in a horror smash while on tour in New South Wales.
The lead singer of THE RED SHORE and a member of the band's entourage were killed when the minibus they were travelling in crashed on the NSW north coast early yesterday.
The names of the two men, who were aged 22 and 27, have not been officially released.
But fans flooded the band's MySpace page with tributes to lead singer Damian Morris and roadie "Andy."
The musicians were on the "Christmas Carnage" tour with U.S. band ALL SHALL PERISH and were headed to Sydney for a gig after a show in Brisbane on Tuesday night.
Their white tour van ran off the Pacific Highway and rolled several times before slamming into a tree at Moonee Beach, north of Coffs Harbour, about 7am, local police said.
One of the men was killed on impact and the other was trapped in the wreckage for more than an hour before later dying in hospital.
Six other passengers escaped with head injuries, cuts and fractures and were taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital in a stable condition.
Sources close to the band confirmed the deaths, and said another member had suffered crushed legs and was having surgery in hospital.
