15-Foot FREDDIE MERCURY Statue Unveiled In Liverpool; Photos Available
June 2, 2011According to the Liverpool Echo, a 15-foot statue of late QUEEN singer Freddie Mercury has found a temporary home on Paradise Street in Liverpool, England to celebrate the arrival of the hit QUEEN and Ben Elton musical "We Will Rock You" at the Empire Theatre this September.
Originally the plan was to put the statue on the Empire's canopy on Lime Street, but at 680 kilograms (approximately 1,500 pounds),Freddie was simply too heavy.
Andrew Rawlinson, Liverpool Empire general manager, said: "Our city is often referred to as the World Capital of Pop, so I think the bustling streets of Liverpool One will make a very fitting spot for Freddie.
"This show has audiences rocking wherever it goes and Im sure Liverpool will be no exception."
