Former FEAR FACTORY Guitarist Explains Bassist Requirements For New Project

September 7, 2006

Former FEAR FACTORY/current ASESINO guitarist Dino Cazares has issued a statement clarifying some of the bassist requirements for his as-yet-unnamed project, which also includes Tim Yeung (VITAL REMAINS, ex-HATE ETERNAL) on drums and Tommy Cummings (VEXT) on vocals. The group, which made its live debut Saturday night (September 2) at the Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood, California prior to ASESINO's performance as part of Dino's birthday bash (DECREPIT BIRTH's Risha Eryavec filled in on bass for the event),will be holding open auditions at Downtown Rehearsal 7th St. Studios (2155 East 7th St.) in Los Angeles on September 16-17 beginning at 2:00 p.m. each day.

Commented Dino: "To all of you who find the long-hair request to be lame: Please understand we have to narrow down the audition hopefuls and don't have time to audition emo kids, or post-hardcore, or whatever they call themselves. This is a metal band. Having long hair doesn't make you more or less metal than anyone else, [but] we simply can't have every poser in Hollywood who wants a free ride wasting our time with their FALL OUT BOY / MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE look.

"In response to the pick-playing request: This project requires pick-playing to keep up with Dino Cazares's right hand and to lock up with Tim Yeung's double bass. Unless you are Alex Webster from CANNIBAL CORPSE or Derek Boyer from SUFFOCATION, we highly doubt you are going to be able to finger pick 16th notes at 251 bpms with the kind of attack that plastic-against-nickel-wound strings provides. If you are talented enough to do both, then PLEASE come down and try out; we have to see this."

In order to audition, you must learn the FEAR FACTORY song "Self Bias Resistor". To schedule the audition, contact Dino via his MySpace page.

Cazares told BLABBERMOUTH.NET on Tuesday (September 5) that the new band is currently preparing to enter the studio next Monday (September 11) to begin pre-production for its upcoming debut album, tentatively due in 2007 via an as-yet-undetermined label. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "The Threat is Real", "Failed Creation" and "Savior Self".

According to one attendee who saw the group's brief performance at the Whisky A Go Go, the band's musical direction "was reminiscent of old FEAR FACTORY'Soul of a New Machine' [1992] meets 'Demanufacture' [1995] — but faster, heavier and more intense. After [the new group's] three-song set, Dino screamed from the stage, 'This ain't no pussy shit like new FEAR FACTORY is.' The over-packed crowd cheered as he marched off stage, only to return 10 minutes later to do a full set with ASESINO."
