Former GREAT WHITE Tour Manager To Be Released In March

September 20, 2007

The Associated Press reports that the band manager whose pyrotechnics ignited a nightclub fire that killed 100 people is granted parole. The parole board says Daniel Biechele will be released in March after serving less than half of his four-year sentence.

Board chairwoman Lisa Holley says yesterday's decision was unanimous. Biechele pleaded guilty last year to 100 counts of involuntary manslaughter for the 2003 fire in West Warwick. He was working for the rock band GREAT WHITE when he ignited the blaze.

Holley says the board considered things such as risk of reoffending, plans for life after prison and letters received from victims' families. Some relatives of those killed say they think Biechele deserves to get out early, while others are unhappy with the decision.

Attorney General Patrick Lynch says he disagrees with the parole board, but respects the decision.
