Former MEGADETH Guitarist JEFF YOUNG Teams Up With Singer KAYLA DIXON And Director MICHAEL SARNA For 'Mirror In The Sky' Music Video

November 5, 2026

Former MEGADETH guitarist Jeff Young has teamed up with vocalist Kayla Dixon and director Michael Sarna for the new song and music video "Mirror In The Sky", featured in Sarna's supernatural horror film "Return To Fear", released on November 3, 2026 in North America.

Directed by Sarna, the "Mirror In The Sky" music video will make its online debut on November 19.

The collaboration began when Sarna directed the KINGS OF THRASH concert DVD "Best Of The West… Live At The Whisky A Go Go", released through Cleopatra Records. Impressed by Young's extraordinary guitar playing, Sarna reached out to the former MEGADETH guitarist to create an original song for the end credits of his upcoming horror film. Young teamed up with Dixon, who wrote the song's lyrics and vocal melody, bringing her distinctive voice and creative vision to the project. Together, they created "Mirror In The Sky", blending Young's signature guitar work with Dixon's powerful vocals to capture the film's dark and haunting atmosphere.

"When I was directing the KINGS OF THRASH concert DVD, I was blown away by Jeff's guitar playing," says Sarna. "His talent and the emotion he puts into every note really stood out. When I was finishing 'Return To Fear', I knew Jeff was the perfect artist to create something special for the end credits. With Kayla's incredible vocals and songwriting, 'Mirror In The Sky' became exactly what I envisioned for the film."

The collaboration led to an accompanying music video directed by Sarna and produced through Inmotion Entertainment Inc., bringing together the worlds of heavy metal and horror.

"Return To Fear" follows a troubled young woman who returns to her childhood home, only to uncover a terrifying family curse tied to an ancient supernatural evil.

Young's entire career with MEGADETH was spent recording and touring in support of the band's 1988 platinum-selling album "So Far, So Good...So What!"

Jeff made headlines in December 2009 for accusing MEGADETH leader Dave Mustaine of, among other things, "dissing, exaggerating and just plain lying on some level about nearly every talented musician that has passed through his dysfunctional little ensemble." He also disputed Mustaine's claim in an interview that Young's drug problem led to MEGADETH's 1988 Australian tour being called off and the group being "banned" from performing in the country.

In a 2023 interview with Metal Edge magazine, Young was asked if he regretted his decision to "walk away" from MEGADETH in 1989. He responded: "Sure, I would have loved to have stayed in MEGADETH. But it was to the point where you had a guy suffering from paranoid delusions freebasing drugs 24/7."

Asked about the rumors that Young's dismissal from MEGADETH was caused in part by his attempt to put the moves on Mustaine's then-fiancée, Young said: "It never happened. But these are the bullshit lies that have been spread repeatedly. To this day, MEGADETH's fans look at me weirdly. And to be honest, I don't really appreciate it."

KINGS OF THRASH completed several tours during which it performed MEGADETH's classic albums "Killing Is My Business… And Business Is Good!" and "So Far, So Good… So What!" The aforementioned live CD/DVD package called "Best Of The West… Live At The Whisky A Go Go" was recorded and filmed live at the legendary Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, California on October 15, 2022 and was released in March 2023 via Cleopatra Records. The DVD, which was directed by Sarna, includes an appearance by another former MEGADETH member, Chris Poland (guitar).

KINGS OF THRASH was formed in April 2022, following a special appearance by Ellefson and Young at "Ultimate Jam Night" at the legendary Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood, California. The event was honoring the legendary "Big Four" of thrash metal — METALLICA, MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX. During the evening, Ellefson and Young performed three classic MEGADETH songs alongside vocalist Chaz Leon. The electrifying performance sparked an immediate chemistry that led to the formation of KINGS OF THRASH.

KINGS OF THRASH was built around a concept envisioned by Ellefson: creating a live experience celebrating early MEGADETH albums and rarely performed deep cuts from his decades-long tenure with the thrash metal pioneers. This vision became known as "The MEGA Years".

In November 2022, KINGS OF THRASH took to the stage with four proof-of-concept concerts in San Diego, Phoenix, Las Vegas and Hollywood. Their performance at the Whisky A Go Go on the Sunset Strip was filmed and recorded, resulting in "Best Of The West…Live At The Whisky A Go Go". The double live album and DVD were released in both digital and vinyl formats.
