Former METALLICA/WHITE ZOMBIE A&R Executive Publishes Book Of Photography

Former Elektra and Geffen Records A&R executive Michael Alago, who "discovered and nurtured METALLICA" in addition to signing such acclaimed acts as WHITE ZOMBIE, METAL CHURCH, SPEEDEALER and LOCAL H, has produced a photography book entitled, "Rough Gods", focusing on "men who expect to be worshipped," according to an article published in New York Blade, the weekly newspaper for the gay and lesbian community of New York City.

Regarding the book's title, Alago says, "In my world of 'rough gods,' that can encompass a beautiful flower and grave sites. But mostly, it's big strong men."

For Alago, the roughness of his objects contains their "beauty." He readily admits, "I like guys who are rough around the edges. Everybody does these homogenized books of traditional beauties."

He was looking for guys more raw, more street. He says that's exactly where he found many of his subjects, including Gauge, the hugely muscled porn star, whose nude torso is the book's highlight.

"I saw him walking out of the gym on 23rd Street," Alago recalls. "He thought I was a little crazy when I went up to him. But he liked my knuckles" — tattoos that say "good luck."
