Former PENTAGRAM Guitarist To Pen Turkish EUROVISION SONG CONTEST Entry?
October 30, 2006Turkish newspaper Hürriyet reports that Demir Demirkan, former guitarist for the Turkish metal band PENTAGRAM (now known internationally as MEZARKABUL to avoid confusion with an American doom metal band, though they are still known as PENTAGRAM in their home country),has been asked by the TRT (Turkish Radio and Television Corporation) to compose the 2007 Turkish entry for Helsinki's Eurovision Song Contest edition. Mr. Demirkan is member of the TRT committee for the Eurovision Song Contest and it is said that he is negotiating with various artists to decide who's going to perform his song entry. According to the newspaper, Mr. Demirkan declined the offer but he left an open window for possible participation as he feels that TRT is taking the contest far too seriously. He believes that the song which will be sent to Helsinki should be performed in English, using the example of his winning entry back in 2003, saying that if it hadn't been sung in English, it wouldn't have won.
