Former THE GATHERING Singer's 'Concert For Chile' Cancelled

March 24, 2010

Concert for Chile, the benefit concert which was scheduled to take place tonight (Wednesday, March 24) at De Melkweg in Amsterdam, Holland, has been cancelled. Among the musicians who were slated to perform at the event were former THE GATHERING singer Anneke van Giersbergen and her new band AGUA DE ANNIQUE, Simone Simons (EPICA) and Danny Cavanagh (ANATHEMA).

Commented Anneke: "These last two weeks we've been working around the clock to make this happen. We had some of Holland's biggest names in popular music supporting this benefit. Nevertheless, ticket pre-sales weren't even close to what one would expect from a lineup like this. Today we had to throw in the towel, despite the massive support of the Melkweg venue and all artists and crews.

"I received an overwhelming amount of moving messages of Chilean people: thank you all.

"I can't begin to tell you how sad I am at the moment.

"All profits of my new single will still be going to Chile.

"Thank you for understanding, stay safe and I hope to see you all soon."
