February 14, 2004Former TWILIGHT OPHERA vocalist Sauli Lehtisaari (a.k.a. Sauli Karkkunen) passed away on Thursday, February 12. "The band and friends would like to take a part of grief for Sauli's two young daughters, wife and relatives," the group write in an official statement sent to BLABBERMOUTH.NET. "Everything came as a sudden strike for everyone, Sauli was just diagnosed to have a stomach tumor (which was extremely aggressive). The cancer was unstoppable... We will never forget you!!! R.I.P."
Lehtisaari's final recorded appearance with TWILIGHT OPHERA took place on 1999's "Midnight Horror", which was released through the U.K.'s Cacophonous Records. Sauli left TWILIGHT OPHERA in late 2000 because he "just didn't have enough time for a band anymore" and was eventually replaced by Mikko Häkkinen, according to the group's biography posted on their web site.
TWILIGHT OPHERA, the Finnish symphonic black/dark metal band who feature in their ranks SOULGRIND second guitarist Toni Näykki and SOULGRIND mastermind Lord Heikkinen, recently signed a multi-album deal with Finland's Low Frequency Records.
