Former W.A.S.P. Guitarist: 'BLACKIE LAWLESS Is A Monster'
April 25, 2003Former W.A.S.P. and current ANIMAL guitarist Chris Holmes has once again slammed former bandmate/W.A.S.P. mainman Blackie Lawless, calling his time in the group "the worst time in my life" and referring to Lawless as "the single most egotistical son-of-a-bitch walking the earth."
Speaking to Electric Basement about his years in W.A.S.P., Holmes said, "that was probably the worst time in my life. I am going to be real up front about it, because it is how I feel and I want to get all that trash behind me. Blackie Lawless is the single most egotistical son-of-a-bitch walking the earth and he drained almost all the life right out of me. I have nothing but hate and contempt for that man, and I would like to put it out on the table. If he has an ounce of guts he will get on his little cell phone and call me. We can settle this man-to-man. I want to fight him. But he better be ready to make a commitment to go the distance because it won't be over until he is not walking anymore.
"Blackie is a monster and once you are a monster, you can't change who you are. I am Chris Holmes. I am grateful to the people who bought the albums, came to the shows and made W.A.S.P. who they were. Blackie took a shit on them and viewed them as beneath him. That's not right.
"Basically he ripped myself and everybody else off. He got rich and we had jobs. Hell, he cut my salary while off tour. I had to hold a construction job, just to live. I truly hate that guy. So Blackie calls me up one day, and says we are going to record a new album. Now at that time I was doing construction. My hands are cracked, bleeding, and swollen. I tell him there is no way I can do it because of my hands. He has the balls to tell me that I should not lower myself to do that work anyway. What else am I supposed to do? He cut my pay.
When asked if there were any good times while he was in the band, Holmes said, "Oh yeah there was, but the bad outweighed them. Have you ever been in a room with a person and it feels like all the air gets sucked out? That's Blackie Lawless. He has two faces. One he shows to people and the other one that despises and shits on the fans. He really does look at them as beneath him. But he is not here to defend himself, so I really don't want to trash him but I hope he reads this, and has the guts to call me because I really do want to settle it man to man."
