FRED COURY On Possibility Of CINDERELLA Reunion: 'If The Stars Align The Right Way, We'll Do It'

December 13, 2019

Fred Coury says that he would be open to doing more shows with CINDERELLA if the stars "aligned the right way."

Although CINDERELLA hasn't released a new studio album since 1994's "Still Climbing", the band started playing sporadic concerts again in 2010 but has been largely inactive for the last few years while frontman Tom Keifer has toured as a solo artist.

During an appearance on this past Thursday's (December 12) episode of "Trunk Nation: L.A. Invasion" on SiriusXM, Coury was asked if he can envision CINDERELLA ever regrouping for at least one more show. He responded: "You know, never say never. We're all cool with each other. I talk to Tom more than anybody in the band; we're still really tight. We haven't played together in a long time, but he supports what I do; I support what he does. And we say no [to gig offers], and the money [that's being offered] keeps going up. And it's at a ridiculous status now, and we're still saying no. So when it goes back down to almost nothing, we'll probably start saying yes," the drummer joked, before adding: "It's not in the cards right now, because we are so busy doing what we do individually. But if the stars align the right way, we'll do it."

This past spring, Keifer shot down the possibility of a CINDERELLA reunion, saying that "it's a situation that doesn't work anymore." He said: "I'm not gonna weigh in on the dynamics of CINDERELLA and what caused that to go south. The only thing I'll say is what I've said in the past, and that is, there's been issues for decades between us, and they've gone years unresolved. And when issues go unresolved, they usually fester and get worse." He added: "I'm not gonna weigh in. We've never aired our laundry, ever, and I'm not about to now."

Back in 2016, CINDERELLA guitarist Jeff LaBar accepted blame for the group's prolonged period of inactivity, explaining that his "drinking problem" caused a rift between him and his bandmates. He told "Another FN Podcast With Izzy Presley": "I can only speculate, but I believe it's all my fault. It's no secret that I've had a drinking problem. And it showed its ugly face on one of those [cruises that CINDERELLA played]. I guess that's what caused a rift… When I fell out on one of those cruise ships in front of everybody — like, basically O.D.'d — that's when the band, and mostly Tom, took notice and was, like, 'What the fuck?'"

Asked if he is sober now, LaBar said: "No, I'm not. Which is the problem. Which is probably the problem. Like I said, I can only speculate, because I don't talk to the other guys anymore. I talk to Fred every now and then. Eric [Brittingham, bass] lives 20 minutes from me. We haven't talked lately, but Eric and I have been the most consistent of all my bandmates throughout the past 32 years. It's just Tom and I that don't talk anymore. And I can only speculate that he's very disappointed and doesn't wanna see me die. He doesn't wanna witness me dying."
