GIANT SQUID Re-Recording Debut Album
December 2, 2005Northern California's GIANT SQUID spent the Thanksgiving weekend re-recording their 2002 independent release "Metridium Field" to serve as their debut for The End Records. Even though guitarist/singer Aaron Gregory is bogged down with studio and school work, he still found time to submit the following report on the ongoing recording process.
"GIANT SQUID spent four days in a decrepit, freezing, ancient vets hall in downtown Sacramento known as the Hangar, tracking for their first record on The End Records entitled 'Metridium Field'. The band within the last two weeks decided to re-record the entire record which was originally self-released as their debut in 2002. Again at the helm is master of all things with down tuned strings, Billy Anderson (NEUROSIS, HIGH ON FIRE, SWANS, SLEEP),capturing the massive guitar sound the band is known for, as well as the equally large sound of the Hangar's palatial live room. GIANT SQUID took full advantage of the studio's impressive collection of vintage synthesizers and organs like the classic Farfisa and Hammond. The band is scheduled to track vocals with local buzz engineer, Robert Cheek (RXBANDITS, AN ANGLE, DEFTONES),and then mix in their new hometown, Austin, TX. where they are relocating from Sacramento, CA in January. GIANT SQUID is terribly excited to release this new interpretation of their original material on their new found home, The End Records."
