GLENN TIPTON Says That 'Being Away From Home' Has Been His Biggest Sacrifice As Member Of JUDAS PRIEST

July 15, 2014

Jo Schüftan of Horns Up Rocks! recently conducted an interview with JUDAS PRIEST guitarists Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner. You can now watch the chat below.

Asked what the biggest sacrifices have been that they have had to make in order to keep the metal flag flying with JUDAS PRIEST for more than 40 years, Tipton said: "For me, I leave my home and my family and dog. I love my home a lot, so to actually live in hotels is one of the hardest things for me. The time on stage is glorious — every second I love on stage; the roar of the audience — but the travel is pretty arduous and can get to you sometimes. Just being away from home. I'm a bit of a homeboy, really."

Faulkner, who joined JUDAS PRIEST in 2011 as the replacement for the band's founding guitarist Kenneth "K.K." Downing, said: "For me, I haven't really sacrificed anything yet — apart from my sanity, hanging out with these guys. No… I haven't sacrificed anything, as far as I'm aware. I mean, when you're called to duty, so to speak, and The Metal Gods ask you to come aboard and fly the flag, I couldn't think of anything that's that valuable that I wouldn't sacrifice it to go do that — to take on that honor and that duty and [move] forward with them. So, no, like I said, luckily, I haven't sacrificed anything yet that I'm aware of, apart from my mind."

According to Billboard.com, JUDAS PRIEST's 17th studio album, "Redeemer Of Souls", is likely to sell more than 30,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, resulting in the band's first-ever Top 10 effort in the U.S. The estimate was based on sales reports compiled after the record arrived in stores on July 8 via Epic. The chart will be unveiled on Wednesday, July 16.

JUDAS PRIEST's 2008 double-disc concept album, "Nostradamus", shifted 42,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 11 on The Billboard 200 chart. This marked the band's highest-ever chart position in the U.S. In Canada, the CD opened at position No. 9 after moving close to 4,000 units.

JUDAS PRIEST's 2005 CD, "Angel of Retribution", premiered with 58,000 copies in the U.S. to debut at No. 13.
