GORGOROTH Documentary In The Works

January 9, 2007

Peter Beste of Vice Films is currently in Norway making a documentary about vocalist Gaahl of the black metal band GORGOROTH. The resulting footage will appear on a Vice DVD with several other related segments. The first pressing of this DVD is 100,000 units, and will be distributed in all major music retailers in the U.S. and most in Europe.

As previously reported, Gaahl, was released from prison last month after being jailed since the spring of 2006. He was sentenced to 14 months in prison in February 2005 for beating a 41-year-old man and threatening to drink his blood. The 31-year-old, whose real name was not revealed by the Norwegian media, was charged with a crime that carries a maximum penalty of nine years in prison. The original 18-month sentence, which was handed down in May 2004, was reduced by four months while the amount in damages Gaahl was required to pay to the victim was increased from 100,000 NOK (approximately $15,000) to 190,000 NOK (approximately $29,000).

GORGOROTH is among the artists that have been nominated in the "Metal" category at the 35th annual Spellemann awards (the Norwegian equivalent to the Grammy Awards). The largest and oldest Norwegian music awards show will be held Saturday, January 27 at the Thalia Theater, Chateau Neuf in Oslo, Norway and will be broadcast live on the Norwegian channel TV2. Other nominees in the "Metal" category are BENEA REACH (for "Monument Bineothan"),ENSLAVED ("Ruun"),and KEEP OF KALESSIN ("Armada").

GORGOROTH entered the national chart in Norway at position No. 22 with its latest album, "Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam". The CD received a U.S. release in July 2006 through Candlelight.

GORGOROTH has been confirmed for this year's edition of the Party.San Open Air festival, set to take place August 9-11, 2007 in Bad Berka, Germany.
