GRAVEYARD RODEO: We Are 'Heaviest, Loudest, Darkest, Most Frightening Original Band Out There'
April 10, 2008Drummer Wayne "Doobie" Fabra of the reunited legendary Lousiana hardcore/metal pioneers GRAVEYARD RODEO has issued the following update:
"We are currently looking for a guitar player who is reliable, serious and who can tour. Do you have what it takes? Tired of hearing the same old dime-a-dozen death metal, you've-heard-them-once-you've-heard-them-all, cookie-monster vocalist bullshit? We have earned legendary band status and schooled many of the great talents who are now very successful and without us they would've never gotten there. So if you want to be in one of the heaviest, darkest, and most legendary punk, hardcore doom bands in the south, Give us a shout. Theres a huge audience out there now that's been waiting for us to surface again. We're ready and we're hungry!!!!! Come and kick some major fucking ass with the big boys of old-school southern drawl. No one has ever topped what GRAVEYARD RODEO has done, and no one ever will. We are the heaviest, we are the loudest and darkest and most frightening original band out there. We have stood the test of time. Our legendary sound greatly influenced all the big bands down here and across the southern map, CROWBAR, DOWN, EYEHATEGOD, CHAOS HORDE, EXHORDER, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY The list is endless, and it's time to get out there and show the world who the fuck we are. So, if you're serious and have a dream to make it in the music business, give us a call. No crackheads. No Christians. No mental cases. Someone we're looking for preferably who is schooled in old hardcore-type jaundra [sic] and old-school metal. BLACK FLAG, DISCHARGE, DEAD KENNEDYS, THE CLASH, THE RAMONES, BLACK SABBATH, VENOM, SLAYER, SWANS, MOTRHEAD, SAINT VITUS, etc. Shit like that."
GRAVEYARD RODEO once featured C.O.C. / DOWN guitarist Pepper Keenan in its ranks. The band made several demos throughout the 1980s that featured songs like "I Wanna Rot" and "Cell XIII / Paradise Lost". But it wasn't until 1992 that German record label Century Media picked up the band and they re-recorded most of their earlier songs for their 1993 debut entitled "Sowing Discord In The Hants Of Man". They toured Europe and then came back to New Orleans to implode. Original bassist Tommy Scanlan and guitarist Gary Gennaro forged on and secured another lineup to record a follow-up in 1994 entitled "On The Verge", then they disbanded. Rumors of a possible reunion started to surface in 2004, then fizzled shortly thereafter.
