GREAT WHITE Receive Strong Support At Illinois Benefit Concert

August 11, 2003

Rex Robinson of the Daily Southtown is reporting that "GREAT WHITE received strong support from fans Sunday [August 10] at a benefit concert in Merrionette Park for the families of victims who died in a fire at one of the band's shows earlier this year in Rhode Island.

"GREAT WHITE's stop Sunday at 115 Bourbon Street was part of a nationwide tour to raise money for the families of the 100 victims who died in the Station nightclub fire on Feb. 20, which was sparked by on-stage pyrotechnics used by GREAT WHITE. The band's guitarist, Ty Longley, and crewmember Jeff Radar were among those who died in the fire.

"Now the band is touring the country to raise money for the Station Family Fund to help victims' families pay for things such as burial costs, mortgages and school clothes for the 56 children who were left without one or both parents after the fire.

"A couple of weeks before the Bourbon Street show, Nick DiNovo, one of the club owners, heard some criticism from a couple of regular patrons. They questioned why the club would host a band possibly responsible for the death of 100 people, he said.

" 'People need to understand that most of the profits from this show are going to the families,' DiNovo said. "If I thought they intentionally tried to kill people, they wouldn't be here.' " Read more.
