GREY SKIES FALLEN On The Back Burner
June 25, 2007New York metal band GREY SKIES FALLEN has issued the following update:
"This is a trying time for the band. The four of us have pretty much agreed to put GREY SKIES FALLEN on the back burner. It's been an up and down eleven years; mostly down.
"People in bands know the sacrifice that goes into it… the effort, and the emotional strain. I think all of that has caught up to us. We need to step back and take a breather.
"We have tried very hard to make good music for you guys to enjoy; we've even resorted to giving it away for free online. The reaction from that has been great. I am thrilled that our music has gotten out to many people that otherwise would have never heard us. However, real life takes precedence. We can't continue to spend money on the band like we did when we were 20, and with no outside support, (record labels, distro's) it's hard to continue.
"We have an album's worth of material written. Quite frankly, it is amazing material. The best stuff we've ever done. I can say that with full confidence, and I am extremely proud of it. It's sitting there, ready to be recorded, yet right now I don't think we have it in us to get it done. Recording costs a lot of money...so does mixing, pressing, and distributing.
"We've never done a good job with that last one.
"As it stands right now, GREY SKIES FALLEN is on indefinite hiatus. What that means is that we're shutting it down...it could last a week, it could last three years, it could be permanent. We don't know right now. Personally, I've been struggling with coming to terms with this decision. It feels as though someone very close to me has died; as corny as that sounds.
"That's the bad news.
"The good news is that the four of us will continue as a brand new band. Hopefully, that will take shape and evolve. Joe, Craig, and myself have begun jamming again, slowly but surely. Sal will join us as well...we'd never think of jamming without that crazy bastard!
"So don't take this as a final goodbye. We could wake up tomorrow and decide to continue...to stick it out, but if the last ten months are any indication, I don't see that happening. It is my HOPE that we can get our shit together one day and record and release that fourth album. We just can't lay out 10 grand again and have 8 boxes of unsold CDs sitting in my closet like there is right now.
"The band isn't 'broken up.' I will still continue to promote as much as I can on MySpace, and hope that you fine folks will continue to spread the word and get our music out there.
"We just hope everyone understands that this was not a simple decision to come to. We were never in it for fame, fortune, or any of that bullshit...we just wanted our music to be heard. It's just hard to keep stepping to the plate when you know you're going to strike out time and time again. (Sorry for the baseball reference)
"In closing, we'll let everybody know about the new band when we get that rolling. Expect a different sound...a more progressive, ambient, mellow sound with a bit of a heavy edge. Right now, we don't even have a name for it, but I can hear the music in my head, and I'm digging what I hear. :) Everyone on our friends list will get an invite when the new page goes up...hopefully that's sooner than later.
"I just want us to be inspired again like we used to be. It hasn't been there for a while now, and that's when you know to take a step back and evaluate.
"You guys have been awesome, and we sincerely hope to see you down the road once again...either as GREY SKIES FALLEN, or as something else. Maybe even BOTH!
"Thanks for your time, and thanks for all the kind words over the past eleven years."
