Guitarist RAMON ORTIZ Quits PUYA, Focuses On ANKLA

December 2, 2004

After almost fifteen years as founding member, guitar player and songwriter of the rock band PUYA, Ramon Ortiz has decided to separate from the band to concentrate on his new group ANKLA. Right now Ortiz is in Los Angeles, California putting the final touches on the ANKLA debut album under the production of Bob Marlette (BLACK SABBATH, IOMMI, SEETHER, HALFORD, EVANESCENCE). The album, which will be released in 2005 on Black Lava Records, will include twelve to fourteen original tracks, all written by Ortiz. The brutally heavy sound and compositions on the record is the product of the Puerto Rican guitar player's musical evolution and an allegiance to his metallic roots. "We have taken our time to make this record meticulously so the final product is exactly what I wanted it to be," Ortiz says. "In terms of production, composition, and execution, it is my best work to date. Music, before being business, is art…it has to come from the heart without interference. Only like that can it be pure and genuine expression. Fortunately, I found a team of people that share that mentality with me. My musical vision for the new millennium needed a powerful sound — [it] is more focused, intense and metallic than anything I had done before."
