HADES Guitarist Discusses Reunion

April 17, 2010

Guitarist Dan Lorenzo of the New Jersey metal band HADES spoke to NorthJersey.com about the band's decision to reunite for an appearance at this year's Keep It True festival in southern Germany on April 23-24.

"The promoter told me, 'The audience will know every single song from the first two albums,' " said Lorenzo. "Most artists enjoy playing their newest material most, but it's also stunning that fans love songs we wrote almost 25 years ago."

The reunion renewed drummer Tom Coombs and Lorenzo's friendship. The two had not spoken for more than 15 years, and Lorenzo said mending fences was as important as getting the band back together.

"We've all had our ups and downs together, but you want to end it on an up," Lorenzo said after a recent band rehearsal in Woodland Park. "It's nice that we got rid of that negative energy and now we're getting along great."

Lorenzo said he is not sure what the future holds for HADES. The band broke up in 1989, reformed in the late '90s with a different lineup and released three albums between 1998 and 2001.

"We're at this point where we've realized that no matter what course you think life is going to take, things happen and change," Lorenzo said. "As for what comes next, if anything, we're not even going to try to guess."

At the end of January, the "Resisting Success" lineup of HADES had its first rehearsal since 1986.
