Heavy Metal Band's Ammo Charges Dismissed
August 5, 2008Australia's ABC News reports that two Sydney teenagers trying to take photos for their heavy metal band's album cover have had ammunition possession charges against them dismissed by Tasmania's Chief Magistrate this morning (Tuesday, August 5).
The pair had pleaded guilty to possessing ammunition for a semi-automatic rifle in a public place — namely Launceston's Cataract Gorge.
Christopher Colin Diasinos and Heath Davis Macey, both 19 from Sydney, were touring Launceston with their heavy metal band in March when they decided to pose for some band photos at the Cataract Gorge.
The court heard they were dressed in costume and police say they were carrying seven centimetre long bullets strung in ammunition feed belts.
Their lawyer told the Chief Magistrate, Arnold Shott, that other people visiting the Gorge became concerned and called police.
