Helsinki Thrashers THE SCOURGER On Finnish Single Chart

July 21, 2006

According to Rockdetector.com, Finnish thrashers THE SCOURGER — who scored a sensational No. 1 single in their home country with "Hatehead" last year — saw their latest single, "Maximum Intensity", enter the Finnish chart at No. 3 last week. This week it rises to No. 2. View the entire chart at this location.

THE SCOURGER recently signed a license deal with Germany's Cyclone Records to distribute their debut album, "Blind Date with Violence", across Europe. This version of the record adds two bonus tracks, cover versions of SLAYER's "Ghosts of War" and TESTAMENT's "Over the Wall". The bonus cuts were recorded May 19-24, 2006 at Seawolf Studios with producer Aaro Seppovaara. Says vocalist Jari Huskainen: "We have been playing those SLAYER and TESTAMENT tracks for a while live now and they fit us like a blow in the face. They are true milestones in the history of thrash metal and you can't really overlook them if you are into this kind of stuff." The label has also just revealed that the entire album is to be remastered at Finnvox studios and will be re-released this fall, complete with all-new cover artwork and layout.

THE SCOURGER was formed in 2003 by former GANDALF singer Jari Hurskainen, guitarist Pekka Hämäläinen and drummer Seppo Tarvainen. Jani Luttinen of THE WAKE took the second-guitar post from Harri Hytonen, this new lineup debuting with a hometown (Helsinki) support to TRIVIUM in October 2005. THE SCOURGER issued their full-length debut, "Blind Date With Violence", produced by BLAKE's Aaro Seppovaara, in January 2006. In May Jani Luttinen injured his hand, necessitating WARMEN's Antti Wirman stepping in as substitute.
