IN FLAMES Bassist Says Meeting RONNIE JAMES DIO Has Been An Inspiration

October 19, 2006

IN FLAMES bassist Peter Iwers has posted the following message in the "Peter's Corner" section of the band's official web site:

"Hey all, sitting here in my hotel room in Frankfurt where I slept longer than I ever have before. I was so jetlagged because of us going to Japan for five days and then back, it really messed up the rhythm.

"Anyways, Japan was awesome, the shows were so good and I had such a blast doing them. I think we played to our biggest crowd yet over there — 12,000 and it felt amazing. The Japanese people are really wonderful. Their way of living should be an inspiration to us all sometimes.

"Got to meet and hang out with some friends and some off the people I really admire: the guys in ANTHRAX, OPETH, MEGADETH and of course: Ronnie James Dio, what a cool man. He's been doing his thing for a long time and is still probably the nicest guy I've ever met.

"It's so interesting 'cuz I have met some people in bands that are maybe one record into their career and feel like they are better than anybody else. Sometimes they are absolute 'rock stars' with a bad attitude. I'm sure we've all met people like that, and felt that they suck. But then it's such an inspiration and so cool to meet somebody like Dio who's been around for so long and to see that he is still such an awesome person.

"Now we're getting ready for the Unholy Alliance [European] tour. It starts tomorrow and we can't wait for it so see you all very soon."

As previously reported, IN FLAMES' latest album, "Come Clarity", has sold more than 100,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

"Come Clarity", the highly influential band's debut for Ferret Music, took the hard rock community by storm upon its release, debuting at #58 on the Billboard Top 200 with first week sales of nearly 25,000 copies. The highest charting record in both the band and label's sales history, "Come Clarity" has met to widespread critical acclaim and solidified IN FLAMES' place as leaders of the modern day heavy music movement. IN FLAMES is also seeing success at radio with the launch of the first U.S. commercial campaign in the band's storied history.
