IN FLAMES 'Riff Lesson' Available

May 14, 2008

When Gothenburg, Sweden melodic death metal pioneers IN FLAMES came to New York as part of Gigantour 2008, Guitar World's MetalKult had a chance to sit down with guitarists Bjrn Gelotte and Jesper Strmblad for an exclusive riff lesson.

Over the next two weeks MetalKult will be airing six lessons in which the pair demonstrate how to play a selection of new and classic tracks from IN FLAMES' nine-album catalog. Throughout these lessons, Gelotte and Strmblad explain how they achieve their signature sound, which includes extensive twin guitar harmonies, complementary melodic lines and downright brutal riffage.

In part one which can be viewed at this location the guys break down "The Mirror's Truth", the opening track off the band's latest album, "A Sense of Purpose".

The third installment of the U.S. Gigantour the acclaimed traveling heavy music festival launched in 2005 by MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine officially launched on April 12 in Denver, Colorado with headliner MEGADETH, Swedish metal band IN FLAMES, Finland's CHILDREN OF BODOM, Arizona's modern extreme act JOB FOR A COWBOY and Oakland, California heavy power trio HIGH ON FIRE. The 29-date trek will criss-cross North America and is scheduled to wrap May 22 in Phoenix, Arizona.

IN FLAMES will embark on a European headlining tour in October. Support on the trek will come from SONIC SYNDICATE and GOJIRA.

IN FLAMES's new album, "A Sense of Purpose", shifted 20,000 copies in the United States during its first week of release. This is slightly less than the opening tally of "Come Clarity" (Ferret),which sold just under 24,000 copies in February 2006 to debut at position No. 58.

Nuclear Blast Records has released a spherical labyrinth box set edition of "A Sense of Purpose". Strictly limited to 1,500 copies, the set contains a wooden spherical labyrinth (size 280 x 232 x 78 mm, outer wall 15 mm higher) including a metal ball with the IN FLAMES logo and the album plus a bonus DVD. It also comes with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
