IN THIS MOMENT Singer: 'OZZFEST Has Been Great For Us So Far'

August 2, 2007

Terry Perkins of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports: How does a tour that gives away free tickets make money? It doesn't. Sponsorships, from companies such as Monster Energy, Jagermeister and Pilgrim Films, keep Ozzfest 2007 going date to date. But none of the bands on the bill is being paid beyond expenses.

So why would a band sign on for a tour that doesn't pay? For IN THIS MOMENT, an up-and-coming band from Southern California, it comes down to exposure.

"Ozzfest has been great for us so far," lead singer Maria Brink says by phone as she traveled to an Ozzfest stop in Denver. "There's been a really wide range of people at the places we've played so far, both in terms of age and musical taste. So it's a great way for us to reach a whole new audience for our music."

IN THIS MOMENT has been together for almost three years, and the band's appearance at Ozzfest helps get out the word about its recently released debut recording, "Beautiful Tragedy".

"It's been perfect timing for us, with the CD coming out and our first music video making its debut last week as well," Brink says. "Everything seems to be happening at such a fast pace that we're just really caught up in the excitement of it."

While OZZY OSBOURNE, LAMB OF GOD, STATIC-X and LORDI play the main stage of Ozzfest, IN THIS MOMENT and groups such as CIRCUS DIABLO, ANKLA, CHTHONIC and NILE perform on the fest's smaller second stage. That stage also has a strict time limit of 20 minutes, but that's enough for IN THIS MOMENT to showcase its music.

"We picked what we consider our four best songs, and we just put the maximum amount of energy into each of those songs when we hit the stage," Brink says. "We just try and get the crowd going, and into the music. And so far the response has been great.

"It's definitely an opportunity," she says. "And we want to make sure we take advantage of it."
