INTENSE HAMMER RAGE Plead Guilty To Importing Prohibited Product
May 15, 2003The three members of Tasmanian grindcore band INTENSE HAMMER RAGE have pleaded guilty and been fined for importing a prohibited product, their latest CD, into Australia, according to ABC Online.
The three pleaded guilty to importing a prohibited product into Australia in April 2001.
Customs officers seized 207 copies of their CD "Avagoyamugs", believing it contained offensive lyrics that would be considered revolting and against common standards.
The CD had been produced in the U.S. by record company Razorback Records.
Defense counsel Tamara Jago told magistrate Tim Hill that the CD can be bought over the counter in the U.S., where censorship laws are not as restrictive as those in Australia.
Jago said that because customs has held the CDs, none of the men have profited from the importation.
The magistrate ordered the CDs be forfeited and the three men were fined AUS $500 each.
