IRON MAIDEN Bassist On U.K. 'Honors' Petition: Thanks, But No Thanks
May 16, 2007IRON MAIDEN bassist Steve Harris has commented on the petition by MAIDEN fans to include him in the British government's next honors list.
The petition, which was launched last month, reads: "IRON MAIDEN are often the band that encourage youngsters into rock music; one of the pleasures of a MAIDEN gig is the healthy mix of young and old. Steve Harris, as a very fit, relatively moderate drinker, is a great role model for the younger fans that his band continuously attracts."
U.K.-based music journalist Dave Ling recently spoke to Harris about the petition and was not surprised to learn that Steve finds the whole thing hilarious.
"I'm sure it'll never happen, and if it did I wouldn't want it," Harris said, according to Ling. "It's nice that people might think of me like that, but it probably started as a joke that got out of hand. It's not me. You know me; it's not what I'm about. Imagine if you had to call me Sir all the time. A Crystal Palace fan to a West Ham fan... you wouldn't do it, would you?"
