IRON MAIDEN Fan To Test His Metal On TV

January 14, 2011

According to the Oxford Mail, a 27-year-old British man whose specialist subject is the heavy metal band IRON MAIDEN will appear on tonight's edition on the legendary U.K. quiz show "Mastermind", where contestants face an inquisition on their chosen subject.

Tom Scotney told the Oxford Mail, "I had a face-to-face interview and had to choose my specialist subject. There are lots of rules and you can't have anything that's been done in the last two or three years.

"I've always been an IRON MAIDEN fan, although I've been told I don't look like one, which I think is meant to be a compliment.

"I've seen them live four or five times and doing this gave me an excuse to listen to all the albums again. I also read about half a dozen biographies of the band, which were, without exception, terrible, and I had the songs on shuffle on my iPod for quite a while."

A METALLICA fan by the name of Ian Volante appeared on "Mastermind" on March 6, 2009 to answer questions about his favorite band. Watch footage of his appearance below.

"Mastermind" is widely regarded as the most rigorous and intellectual British quiz show, and, after 38 years, has become one of television's most enduring successes.

"Mastermind" was the brainchild of TV producer Bill Wright, a former RAF gunner, who drew on his wartime experience as a P.O.W. in Germany of answering three questions — name, rank and number — to create the "Mastermind" ritual of contestants being asked their name, occupation and specialist subject.
