Is METALLICA Planning To Make 'Garage Inc. 2'?

June 8, 2019

METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich has hinted that the band is planning to release a new collection of covers.

In the latest issue of Kerrang! magazine, the members of METALLICA were asked a number of fan-submitted questions. Among them was a query from Aran from Leicester, who wanted to know which songs METALLICA would cover if it was going to make "Garage Inc. 2"Ulrich was uncharacteristically curt in his reply, saying simply: "Wait and see."

Issued in 1998, "Garage Inc." included cover songs, B-side covers, and the "The $5.98 E.P.: Garage Days Re-Revisited", which had gone out of print since its original release in 1987. The title is a combination of "Garage Days Revisited" and METALLICA's song "Damage, Inc." The album featured songs by artists that have influenced METALLICA, including DIAMOND HEAD, DISCHARGE, BLACK SABBATH and MISFITS.

METALLICA is continuing to tour in support of its latest album, "Hardwired… To Self-Destruct", which came out in November 2016.

The "WorldWired" tour has played more than 130 shows across the world since its 2016 kick-off.

Last November, Ulrich told The Mercury News that the trek could last through early 2020.
