JAMES MURPHY: The Road To Recovery

March 23, 2002

Former TESTAMENT/DEATH/OBITUARY guitarist James Murphy appears to be well on his way towards full recovery from the brain tumor that he was diagnosed with last August. According to the latest update from Murphy posted at his official web site, “I got some good news today... I just got back from meeting with my neurologist. I had an MRI yesterday and today the doctor told me the remains of my tumor had shrunk significantly and that he was not going to recommend radiation treatment at this time. Quite a relief after months of wondering.”

James has both endocrinologist, and ophthalmologist appointments on March 29th to check the state of his vision and hormone production respectively, both of which were damaged by the tumor because of its type and location in Murphy's head. In the meantime, James will now set his mind and fingers to writing the new DISINCARNATE CD which he originally began in 1999 before taking ill. The progress may be slower than he would like, due to both the remaining side-effects and lack of funds, but as James stated, “I must do this record, for my sanity and spirit if nothing else.”

On another note, Murphy continues to be deluged with high medical bills (reported to be in excess of $60,000) and will still require a lot of ancillary treatment for the complications of the tumor and surgery, as well as constant medication and monitoring for the continued reduction of the tumor. Help in the form of donations, auction bids and/or CD purchases is still greatly appreciated and (unfortunately) necessary.

All metal fans are strongly urged to make donations and leave messages of support for James at his official web site at this location.
