JANE'S ADDICTION Frontman Talks Next Album

November 21, 2012

JANE'S ADDICTION frontman Perry Farrell tells RollingStone.com that he has written over 60 new songs in recent weeks for the band's follow-up to 2011's "The Great Escape Artist", with plans to hit the studio in early 2013 to begin recording the new effort.

"I haven't written this much or been this prolific since I started when I was in my 20s," says Farrell. "It's been coming out fantastic. I'm super excited. Everything will really start to jell and come together probably this time next year."

Although Farrell previously told RollingStone.com he was interested in continuing "The Great Escape Artist"'s themes of escapism for the band's next studio effort, he has since changed his mind, in part because "Escape" wasn't as well-received as he had hoped.

"It's not going to be [a continuation of] 'The Great Escape Artist'," he says of the forthcoming album. "I had thought that it would be a great idea. However, I just came up with this other twist to doing the next record. At this point I want to start fresh with a fresh angle."

"['Escape'] didn't make a big enough splash," he continues. "If it would have made a bigger splash I would have continued [its themes]."

"The Great Escape Artist" sold around 24,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 12 on The Billboard 200 chart.

"The Great Escape Artist" is JANE'S ADDICTION's first all-new studio effort since 2003's "Strays", which opened with more than 110,000 units to enter the chart at No. 4.

The current JANE'S ADDICTION lineup features original members Stephen Perkins on drums, Farrell and Dave Navarro on guitar.

Although founding bassist Eric Avery initially returned to the band when it reactivated in 2009, he quit the following year.
