JERRY CANTRELL, CHRIS CORNELL, Others Make Appearance At Seattle Memorial For LAYNE STALEY

April 21, 2002

Check out this photo of ex-ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell and ex-SOUNDGARDEN frontman Chris Cornell (sporting blonde hair, no less) sharing a private moment during an informal memorial for late ALICE IN CHAINS singer Layne Staley last night, Saturday, April 20th, at the Seattle Center in Seattle. Staley was found dead in his Seattle apartment on Friday, April 19th. He was 34 years old.

At least 100 friends and fans, many carrying candles and flowers, gathered at Seattle Center's International Fountain last night to remember Staley. At Staley's University District condominium building yesterday, a handful of fans placed flowers at the entry.

According to the Associated Press, tests were required to establish the singer's identity because the body had started to decompose. The cause of death has not yet been released.

It was natural or an overdose that's the way it was determined by our investigators, Seattle Police spokesman Duane Fish told AP.
